Katherine Grier: Folk tales, Canadiana, stories from real life: East Coast, rural, WWII

Availability below

  1. Old folktales that speak to me today. They come from all over. I’m drawn to theme more than culture though with Scots/English/Irish heritage, I tell many stories from that part of the world. Some themes: justice, standing up to power, getting through hard times, trickery/quick-wittedness/resourcefulness, respecting the natural world, finding your place in life, scary tales, love, parents & children. Often with humour, al-ways with spirit and humanity!

  2. Stories from real life. Some are family stories, some not. Some from settler times, some from the 1930s on. Some real characters and ordinary folks. Rural stories from up the Valley, PEI, Cape Breton, Newfoundland. A WWII adventure, a lost cat, youth-ful misadventure, the kindness of strangers, redemption in the lumber woods, mo-ments of magic, bravery, quick thinking. That is, people facing what life throws at them, as we all do.

  3. Or a mix of both around a common theme.

  4. If anyone would like to work on a story of their own over several sessions, I’d be happy to facilitate that.
